Very close to the Portland Headlight Lighthouse in Fort Williams Park is another small but beautiful lighthouse of South Portland in Maine. The Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse is at the end of the Southern Maine Community College campus on Ford Road.
The Springpoint Ledge Lighthouse is operational from 1897 & is constructed of cast iron base & a small conical concrete tower housing a fifth order Fresnel lens.
The Springpoint Ledge Lighthouse is now operated by the Spring Point Ledge Light Trust. The breakwater stretch allows visitors to walk up to the lighthouse. It is also a popular sport for fishing.
Apart from the breakwater, the college campus & the Fort Preble also offers unique views of the Spring Point Lighthouse. Early mornings, late afternoons or cloudy days are the best times for taking pictures.
If you plan to photograph the Springpoint Ledge Lighthouse in broad daylight, you would need a 2X+ Gradual ND filter to get the textures on the lighthouse right.
