About 45 miles south of Portland, Maine is the wonderful Nubble Lighthouse in the Sohier Park. The Sohier Park lies on Route 1A & is the best place to observe & photograph the Nubble Lighthouse of Cape Neddick.
The Nubble Lighthouse is not accessible to the public. However, Friends of Nubble Light often runs spacial tours to the island. It is separated by about 200 yards of the ocean from the Sohier Park.
The Nubble Lighthouse in Cape Neddick was built in 1879. When NASA officials picked photos for the Voyager Spacecraft, intended to identify the Earth if the craft fell into extraterrestrial hands, they included a photo of the Nubble, making it another Maine Lighthouse of historical significance.
