Central Park Musician – Eddie Rapp Playing Fiddle
The New York City Street Musicians & Street Artists Album has new updates. The New York City Street Musicians & Street Artists is an ongoing project to document & photograph the various talented musicians and artists who work on various streets and parks of New York City.
Eddie Rapp is one of the rare sort of musicians to who music comes automatically. Unlike other musicians who I have met in Central Park & New York City, Eddie Rapp learned how to play the fiddle when he was 30 years old. He is self taught and makes a joke about how he never knew how to hold the fiddle when he began playing.
Eddie grew up in New Jersey but moved to California, in the St Louis Obispo county where he has spent most of his time. When he took up the fiddle he discovered that music came naturally to him.
Unlike those who are taught how to play the violin, Eddie holds the instruments in a different way, making it hard for him to play the higher notes. While he was playing the fiddle in Central Park, Mark Conner saw him & was amazed how, being self taught & holding the violin in an odd manner, Eddie managed to bring out such a variety of tunes.
Eddie like to entertain kids in the Central Park and occasionally he would hand over his violin & the bow to a kid & see him bring out the notes! He carries with him a gold chain, secured to his braids. Its his most valuable possession and if you notice the chain you would see a diamond ring given to him by his mother, an old penny run over by a car, given to him by his dad, a fish scale charm from his brother & a mini fiddle that reminds him of his mother.
