I try to spend more time taking pictures & using these photography software to some extent like cropping & framing. I also do a lot of work on film. I usually develop them at the local CVS or Walgreens Pharmacy for a couple of bucks and then digitize them with a good film scanner for printing or editing.

For the most part, the iPhoto software that comes in with Apple Mac, suffices my needs to crop & resize photos to display them online. The built in features of iPhoto are more than enough to display them on any webpage. For slightly intricate work where iPhoto falls short, and even for creating photo cards for prints or for designing 4×5 to 8×10 inch prints, the free open source GIMP Photo Software comes in very handy.

Only when I have to create prints larger than 8×10 inches or prepare professional designs for photo business, I use Adobe Professional Photography Software like the Photoshop or the Lightroom. You could get Adobe Discounts here.
